Vlore

Vlore, Albania

Thousands of women were trafficked through these coastal woods in Albania on the way to Italy in speedboats, the favored transportation used by traffickers to get people out of the country. Prosecutions in Albania are rare because trafficked women are afraid to testify and corruption is prevalent. According to a State Department report, in 2008, 22 trafficking cases were prosecuted, fewer than half the number prosecuted in 2007.
