The 2011 Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding International Investigative Reporting is unique among journalism prizes in that it was created specifically to honor cross-border investigative reporting. It is presented by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, a project of the Center for Public Integrity.
This year’s biennial competition drew 70 entries from 30 countries. "The Price of Sex" was one of seven finalists. The projects represent some of the world’s best investigative reporting and include stories from Afghanistan and Iraq, Eastern Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the United States. The winners were announced in October at this year’s Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Kyiv, Ukraine. Director Mimi Chakarova was in attendance on behalf of the Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma.

"The Price of Sex" will be featured in a special presentation of the Sarasota Film Festival called Through Women’s Eyes, highlighting women who are making a difference by creating films that increase awareness of the lives of women around the world. The Gulf Coast Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for U.N. Women and the Sarasota Film Festival are partnering once again to present the 12th Annual Through Women’s Eyes Film Festival. This event will take place during the first weekend of the SFF, April 9 and 10. U.N. WOMEN is the Women’s Fund at the United Nations. Established in 1976, U.N. WOMEN has touched the lives of women and girls around the world through its dedication to advancing women’s rights and achieving gender equality.
