Cycle of Debt

Cycle of Debt

A woman is sold by a trafficker to a pimp. This becomes her debt. The pimp convinces the woman that the quicker she works it off, the quicker she'll be released. But the price for her freedom doesn't end there: she's charged for room and board, even for taking a shower. The pimps pocket everything she earns. A woman won't make a penny from servicing clients until these debts are repaid. These pages are from the journal and debt tally kept by a trafficked girl over a period of six months. Each page corresponds to her monthly expenses. It lists the money she earned and what she was charged daily for food, rent, gasoline, cab fare, clothing, calling cards, and hospital fees for abortions and illnesses.
